Fenix Down Contribute Music to Film

The awesome rock band Fenix Down has contributed two songs to Purgatory Comics. Their music was actually put in awhile back, but just today it became 100% official as they signed on. You've probably already heard their song "I'm Ready" as I used it for the beginning of the official trailer. "I'm Ready" is also in the movie, as is a song called "Heroes Never Die." You can check out their music video for "I'm Ready" below!

Fun Fact: Fenix Down member Jen was the first person to ever leave me a Myspace comment oh-so-many years ago.

Weezer @ Madison Square Garden 9/24/08

I went to see Weezer at the garden with my brothers last night. We got floor tickets and this show is absolutely in my top five favorite concerts now. It blew away the first time I saw Weezer live about six years ago too. Check out this perfect setlist:

1. My Name Is Jonas
2. Pink Triangle
3. Perfect Situation
4. Say It Ain't So
5. Susanne
6. Keep Fishin?
7. King
8. Undone (with Tom DeLonge)
9. Pork & Beans
10. Dreamin'
11. Dope Nose
12. Troublemaker
13. Automatic
14. Hash Pipe
15. El Scorcho
16. What's the Story, Morning Glory? (Oasis cover)
17. The Greatest Man That Ever Lived

Encore:
18. Island in the Sun
19. Beverly Hills

Encore:
20. Sliver (Nirvana cover)
21. Buddy Holly

So basically they did EVERY hit. They did an Oasis and Nirvana cover. And they actually did Susanne, my favorite B-side of theirs! What an excellent show...I didn't have a voice for the first half of today. Opening acts were Angels & Airwaves and Tokyo Police Club. There are a ton of youtube videos from the show but of course quality is not great. Here's Perfect Situation:

You'll notice that Scott's on lead here, except for Rivers who does the chorus. Weezer's big thing right now seems to be swapping around vocals and instruments. I don't really have a major beef with that...it worked for this show at least.

Interview with Ralph at GeekEteers

Check out my first interview ever over at GeekEteers.com, the web site for all things geek. We discuss Purgatory Comics, writing, the cast, and some candid moments during the production (there's a few anecdotes I haven't written about on this blog yet). Let me know what you think!
"It does not happen every day at GeekEteers, that we get to offer you an exclusive interview. Well, today it not like every day. I had the pleasure to talk to independent film-maker Ralph Suarez, who wrote and directed “Purgatory Comics”, a movie that features a comicbook store, the appropriate amount of geeks, life changing questions and - of course - a porn star."

Bob Meets Bree

Not since Godzilla met King Kong has a meet up been so Earth-shattering. Bree recently did a signing at the New Jersey Convention & Expo Center in Edison, NJ for Exxxotica (nsfw link there), and our own Bob Socci was there. Bob and Bree talked about the film a little and he gave her all the updates. I'm going to stop writing here and let the picture do the talking.

Film Status Update

As the film is still in final mixing, John the editor has been keeping me updated with the status. Here's an email I got from him today:

Hi, Ralph. Just a quick update --- I am 39 minutes into the mix, and everything is going smoothly! I gotta say, I have seen the film a few times now, and I am still laughing out loud at some of the lines! I have good feeling about this film. I just sat and listened to the first 39 minutes that I have done, and I have been able to really smooth it out - I think you will be happy (hopefully) with the final mix. I will we continuing with it tomorrow as well as most of the day Thursday). I will send you an email Thursday evening to let you know how far along I am.

So there's your status update, straight from the source. It's gotten me very optimistic. And also I get to relax and play video games while I know progress is still being made. Have you guys played Force Unleashed yet? Insane.

Planning the DVD

While the film is still in final sound mixing, I've been trying to plan what would go on the DVD release. Believe it or not, I'd like to keep the bonus features limited so the movie wouldn't need insane compression to fit everything on the disc. It looks beautiful in all its HD glory and it would be a waste to lose that look. Here's what you might find, and what you might not find:
  • The film. Duh.
  • Two audio commentary tracks. One by myself and whoever wants from the cast. The second would be director of photography Michael LaVoie.
  • Now about bloopers...I went through some footage today looking to make a blooper reel, and so far I'm not convinced there's enough stuff for a really good one. I think we were all too stressed out to burst into spontaneous laughter fits, and nobody had any screw-ups worth watching. I'm still going to go through more footage though.
  • I don't think I'm going to put the Side Panels mini-docs on the DVD the way they appear on youtube. At this point I believe I'm going to combine them into one featurette, with some re-editing, just to give you a brief fly-on-the-wall look.
  • We do have a little Bree Olson interview worth throwing on there somewhere.
  • I'm still working on a short Peter Whales mockumentary sketch. That will premiere on this blog in the near future, and will most likely be on the DVD.
I was hoping to do some little youtube skits with some of the characters from the film, but that's proven to be difficult. The main issue is that Jonathan "Berner " Zungre has since joined SAG, and they have specific requirements for terms of his acting gigs. He wants to make it happen and we're both looking into it. Those would probably be on the DVD if they could fit.

If you have any ideas/requests for the DVD, drop them in the comments section. If you haven't already, register with blogger to post comments. It's free.
